Humboldt State University is monitoring the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and closely working with, and following stringent guidelines from, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), State of California, and Humboldt County health agencies.

  • HSU is operating virtually and all instruction is virtual. 
  • HSU’s plans are aligned with the Humboldt County 'Shelter in Place' order. All access to campus facilities is closed to the general public. 
  • The limited services remaining open for students--such as certain Dining locations and the Student Health Center--require social distancing.

La Universidad Estatal de Humboldt (HSU) está monitoreando el Nuevo Coronavirus (COVID-19) y está trabajando de cerca con las estrictas guías de Los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC), el Estado de California, y las agencias de salud del Condado de Humboldt.

  • HSU operará virtualmente hasta el final del semestre y toda la instrucción será virtual.
  • Los planes actuales de HSU están alineados con la orden del Condado de Humboldt de quedarse en casa.  Todo el acceso a las instalaciones del campus está cerrado al público en general.

Humboldt State University Department of Athletics continues to work diligently with HSU campus leaders to observe and take action on the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19).  Out of an abundance and caution and based decisions made by campus leaders, attendance at all HSU Athletics home events will be limited to essential personnel only from Saturday, March 14 until Friday, April 17.

Humboldt State University acknowledges its important role in the North Coast in bringing thought-leaders, visitors, artists, musicians, and entertainers to campus and the local community. In an effort to mitigate the possible spread of COVID-19, HSU continues to assess the impact of hosting large events on campus.

There is no one response that works for all events. HSU understands that each event is different.

Humboldt State University is working to maintain as much flexibility as possible for current and upcoming job searches, while also mitigating for possible impacts related to COVID-19. It is important that the University provide a consistent and fair experience for all applicants.

  • If you leave during Spring Break, plan carefully about where you travel.
  • After Spring Break, classes, assignments, and exams are cancelled on March 23-24.
  • Instruction resumes as normal on March 25.

Humboldt State University has suspended all University-sponsored international travel and non-essential domestic travel for the remainder of the Spring semester, consistent with CSU guidelines intended to reduce the spread of COVID-19. “Domestic travel” is travel outside Humboldt County within the United States.

This decision is effective immediately and continues through May 31, 2020. It applies to all areas of the University including auxiliary organizations.

Dear Students and Colleagues,

I write to update you about campus planning related to COVID-19 and to reassure you that Humboldt State University is taking appropriate steps on behalf of our campus community.

As of today, there has not been community transmission of COVID-19 in Humboldt County. We have had no cases on campus.

​​With the impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) continuing to spread as more cases are identified throughout California, the California State University Office of the Chancellor has provided additional guidance to its 23 campuses. To date, there have been no confirmed cases of the coronavirus on any CSU campuses.

Dear Faculty Colleagues: The university continues to monitor the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and its potential impact on our campus. We are not currently aware of any COVID-19 cases on campus, but realize the global situation is changing rapidly. Therefore, we are asking faculty to work with their chairs in making contingency plans in the event of a partial or full campus closure.
