Closure of Local K-12 Schools

Humboldt State University is aware of recent K-12 school closures in our region in response to COVID-19, and we are closely following discussions about the possibility of other school closures. Similar decisions are being made throughout California and around the country.

School closures mean additional challenges for our students and employees. We have heard many questions and concerns - including the challenge of working and the status of student-teacher placements - and we are working to quickly develop appropriate responses. The Pandemic Planning Committee, Emergency Operations Center, and President’s Administrative Team continue to meet regularly (and primarily in a virtual format).

New guidelines and advice related to telecommuting, use of leave, and access to campus facilities will be shared today and Monday.

If you have not already done so, please complete the employee survey or student survey about your technology needs related to teaching and learning. The results so far have been helpful in planning to meet need.  So far, we have received over 2,200 student responses and encourage more students to complete this survey so that we may offer help and solutions.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this challenging time. This is an unprecedented situation, and our responses are being developed as quickly as possible based on guidance from local, state, and federal health officials, and from the CSU system. Everyone at HSU is doing their best under the circumstances.

As the state and national response unfolds, please continue to use good judgment and follow social distancing practices.
