HSU and the CCAA Cancel Spring Athletics

  • Intercollegiate and Club spring sports are cancelled, including all competition, practices, and student-athlete recruitment.

  • HSU made this decision along with all other schools in the CCAA.

  • Recreation and Intramural Sports are not affected at this time.

Effective immediately, Humboldt State University has cancelled all intercollegiate spring sports. This is to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, and is based on a CCAA decision as well as guidelines by local health officials.

This action includes all competition, post-season, practices, and student-athlete recruitment.

All scholarships will continue to be honored.

This decision follows a meeting earlier today of the California Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) presidents. With the recommendation from all the Athletic Directors, the university presidents made the unprecedented decision to cancel all spring athletics practice and competition until further notice. All campuses within the CCAA are taking this action.

At HSU, this action is extended to all Club Sports. The institution will continue Drop-in Recreation and Intramurals on campus at this time.

“We understand that this decision is disappointing to our student-athletes and coaches who have been preparing all season to compete on behalf of HSU, family, friends and fans.  Currently, we are focused on supporting our student-athletes, coaches and staff while shifting to ensure we provide the best possible experience for the remainder of the semester.  While this was not an easy decision, the health and well-being of students, faculty, staff and community is paramount,” said HSU President Tom Jackson, Jr.
